About this retreat
Villa Cantamar sits on the cliffs of Sea Tree Estates, a gated community on the Dominican Republic's northern coast, five minutes from Playa Grande and the town of Cabrera. Ten thousand square feet of Balinese-influenced architecture opens onto the Atlantic — this is a private villa with no shared spaces, no neighboring units, and no resort lobby between you and the view.
The design does the work. Asian influences run through open-air pavilions, shaded terraces and expansive indoor living areas that flow to the outside, so the house is rarely fully enclosed and the trade winds move through it all day. Five bedrooms each have an ensuite bathroom and an ocean view — not a partial outlook for some and a garden view for others, but water from every room.
Outside, a private pool faces the ocean, and a cliffside bathtub sits at the edge of the property, positioned so that a soak looks out over open sea. Terraces step down for lounging and shade, outdoor showers serve the pool and beach returns, tree-shaded gathering areas take the afternoon, and a pergola on the point catches the last of the light. A twelve-person dining table anchors the open-air dining area, with a second shaded setting for slower meals.
The villa comes staffed. Full-time staff, daily housekeeping and chef service are included in the rental — you cover groceries, and the kitchen runs itself. A concierge handles reservations and logistics, and adventure guides can be arranged for waterfalls, snorkelling, horseback riding and mangrove tours along a stretch of coast that stays genuinely uncrowded.

The villa is clifftop oceanfront rather than sand-level: it sits on the cliffs above the Atlantic, with Playa Grande — one of the Caribbean's great beaches — about five minutes away. The trade is a dramatic elevated outlook and complete privacy in place of stepping straight onto sand. If beachfront is the priority, our Kite Beach properties in Cabarete open directly onto the beach.
